Hyderabad: Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Monday announced that the Bathukamma festival will be celebrated as a grand carnival across Telangana from September 21 to 30.
He addressed the media at the Secretariat with Endowments Minister Konda Surekha and Panchayat Raj Minister Seethakka. Jupally said the celebrations would begin on September 21 at the Thousand Pillar Temple in Warangal.
Bathukamma festival Telangana to aim for world record
The minister explained that the government will attempt a Guinness World Record with a large-scale Bathukamma celebration at LB Stadium on September 29. In addition, women’s self-help groups will join special programmes at People’s Plaza in Hyderabad. Colleges across the state will hold student celebrations. Jupally added that the government has signed agreements with airlines to promote Bathukamma at the national level.
Minister Seethakka highlighted the global uniqueness of Bathukamma. She said the festival symbolises the bond between flowers and divinity. “It is more than a festival; it represents Telangana’s pride and dignity,” she said.
Ministers stress cultural and historical significance
Konda Surekha said Bathukamma also honours the legacy of Telangana’s women leaders such as Ranirudrama, Sammakka, Sarakka, Chakali Ilamma and Hazare Mangamma. She added that the government aims to showcase Telangana’s traditions on the world stage. “Bathukamma reflects harmony with nature and spreads fragrance in every household,” she remarked.
She expressed confidence that, with support from the Tourism Department and people of Warangal, the celebrations would set the stage for a memorable event.
Tourism Corporation MD Valluri Kranthi (IAS), Cultural Department Director Mamidi Harikrishna and festival organiser Dillishwari were also present.
