Hyderabad: Former minister and MLA Sabitha Indra Reddy on Thursday said that every scheme introduced during former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s tenure carried the welfare of girls at its core. She made the remarks while releasing a Bathukamma festival CD at Telangana Bhavan.
Sabitha Indra Reddy stated that KCR gave prominence to Bathukamma and ensured its grand celebration every year. She added that three new Bathukamma songs had been specially written for the festival this time.

She recalled that KCR presented sarees to women as a festive gift during Bathukamma. She also underlined that the festival had spread beyond Telangana’s mainstream communities, with Adivasis and Lambadis actively celebrating it. Lambadis, who traditionally celebrated Teej, now participated in Bathukamma with equal enthusiasm.
The leaders said Bathukamma symbolised inclusivity as women across classes and castes celebrated it together. They noted that the festival had become an emblem of Telangana culture and identity.
The event drew the participation of several leaders, including MLAs Sunitha Lakshma Reddy and Kova Lakshmi, MLC Deshapati Srinivas, former minister Satyavathi, former MP Maloth Kavitha, former MLA Padma Devender Reddy and former ZP chairperson Thula Uma.
