Hyderabad: Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) commissioner A.V. Ranganath visited Bathukamma Kunta on Tuesday night to review the arrangements for the Bathukamma Kunta celebrations scheduled for September 26.
Bathukamma Kunta beautification ahead of festival inauguration
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will dedicate the rejuvenated Bathukamma Kunta to the people of Hyderabad on September 26. The lake, once neglected and polluted, has undergone major restoration as part of the city beautification initiative. During his visit, Commissioner Ranganath inspected the works in progress and directed officials to complete cleaning, landscaping, and illumination before the inauguration.
He emphasised that the site should serve as a cultural and recreational landmark even after the festival. Therefore, he asked agencies to maintain cleanliness and ensure security on a continuous basis. In addition, he highlighted that Hyderabad’s lakes hold both ecological and social value, and their preservation must remain a priority.
Leaders, residents praise transformation
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and former MP V. Hanumantha Rao joined the inspection. He praised the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) for executing the project efficiently and described the lake’s transformation as a visible achievement of the government. Furthermore, he stated that Bathukamma Kunta, once an eyesore, now demonstrates how urban water bodies can be successfully revived.
Local residents also expressed satisfaction with the changes. They said the new pathways, lighting, and greenery have created a family-friendly environment. Moreover, several residents urged the government to extend similar efforts to other lakes across the city, noting that the revival has brought both pride and relief to the neighbourhood.
Symbolic boat ride
After the inspection, Commissioner Ranganath, HYDRAA administrator R. Sudarshan, and V. Hanumantha Rao boarded a boat to mark the completion of key works. The ride demonstrated the improved water quality and reassured citizens about safety measures. Finally, officials confirmed that arrangements for traffic management, public facilities, and cleanliness will continue until the conclusion of the celebrations.
The Bathukamma Kunta festivities are expected to attract large crowds, and the administration has promised to ensure smooth and safe proceedings throughout the event.
