Hyderabad: BC Gurukul students clinched gold, silver, and bronze medals at the national-level T-Scan Youth Open Regatta held under the aegis of the Yacht Club of Secunderabad.
In the Optimist Main Fleet category, J. Sirisha, an eighth-grade student from Chandrayangutta Girls School, won silver. V. Hanumanthu, studying in fifth grade at Munugodu Boys School, secured bronze. M. Akshara, a seventh-grade student from Kalwakurthy Girls School, finished fourth nationally.
BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Secretary Sridhar, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule BC Gurukul Educational Society Secretary Badugu Saidulu, and Joint Secretary Tirupati congratulated the medalists.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Saidulu stated that the Gurukul institutions have prioritised skill development alongside academics. Under this initiative, students are receiving sailing training at Hussain Sagar in collaboration with the Yacht Club. He said three phases of training have been conducted so far, with the third phase running from July 1 to July 20.
He added that exceptional performers from the training program will be given advanced coaching and opportunities to participate in national and international competitions. “It is encouraging that three students have won medals at the national level,” he said.
He further noted that selected students will be groomed to compete in the 2026 Asian Games and the 2028 Olympics. He urged students to take full advantage of the government’s initiatives and excel in both academics and sports.
