Hyderabad: BJP Telangana president Ramchander Rao dismissed the Congress-led protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar demanding 42 percent BC reservations as “pure political theatre,” accusing the party of lacking genuine commitment to the Backward Classes.
Speaking to the media in Asifabad on Wednesday, Rao responded sharply to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s claim that the President had denied an appointment to discuss the reservation bills. He said no such appointment was required and called the entire protest a “stage-managed act.”
Ramchander Rao says Congress insincere on BC quota, hits out at Revanth
Ramchander Rao accused the Congress of hypocrisy, stating that if it truly cared about BC rights, it would have sent the quota bill to the Centre without including Muslims under the BC category. He also claimed that Revanth Reddy had met BJP ministers, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, more frequently than he had met Rahul Gandhi.
Taking a swipe, Rao said central ministers had given Revanth more access than his own party leader. He also refuted the notion that the BJP was anti-Muslim, asserting that the party had no opposition to the community.
The BJP leader’s remarks are the latest in the escalating war of words between the Congress and BJP over reservation policy and political sincerity.
