Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has agreed to hear a House Motion petition challenging the state government’s recent order on BC reservations. A Division Bench comprising Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili and Justice Vijayasen Reddy will conduct the hearing shortly.
Petitioner questions legality of 42% quota for BCs
The petition was filed by Madhav Reddy, a resident of Keshavapur village in Medchal–Malkajgiri district. He has contested the government order that allocates 42% reservations to Backward Classes.
Three days ago, Reddy had initially approached the court, citing media reports on the proposed quota. However, the court declined to admit the petition at that time, noting that media reports alone could not form the basis for legal action.
Formal issuance of GO clears way for hearing
Following the official release of the government order, Reddy filed the petition again. This time, the court agreed to consider the plea and permitted a House Motion hearing.
The Division Bench will soon schedule a date to begin proceedings in the case.
