Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has called on the Congress government to provide legal status to the 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in Telangana. Party leaders accused the ruling party of failing to deliver on key poll promises made to BC communities.
BC reservations legal status sought under Ninth Schedule
At a press meet in Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, BRS MLC Madhusudhanachari warned of serious consequences if the state continued to ignore BC welfare. He said Congress had not conducted a caste census anywhere in India and had failed to act on the Kamareddy Declaration.
“We showed how Tamil Nadu protected reservations legally. Yet, CM Revanth Reddy and Rahul Gandhi remain silent,” he said.
Former minister Srinivas Goud urged the state to move BC reservations into the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. He also criticised Congress for excluding BCs from the cabinet and not pressing the Centre for support.
BRS questions GO delay, calls for national-level protest
MLA Gangula Kamalakar demanded answers on why the government had not issued a GO on BC reservations in the last 22 months. He alleged the delay was a tactic to push the issue into court proceedings. Kamalakar called on BRS workers to escalate the protest to Delhi if needed.
