Hyderabad: BC Welfare Association national president Jajula Srinivas Goud on Thursday urged the Telangana government to immediately convene an all-party meeting on the issue of BC reservations.
In a letter to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Srinivas Goud sought participation from political parties, BC organisations, intellectuals and civil groups. He said the government should move forward on increasing BC quota only after such deliberations.
Srinivas Goud accused the BJP of double standards supporting the state bill in the Assembly to raise BC quota to 42 percent, but obstructing the process in Parliament. He alleged the party was creating confusion among BCs by spreading misinformation about Muslim reservations.
He also asked the state to clarify reports that the August 18 Cabinet meeting would decide on local body polls. According to him, the Centre bore responsibility for quota enhancement, yet BJP leaders were demanding elections only after the increase, a stand he likened to hypocrisy.
Goud recommended that the state prepare an action plan to raise BC reservations first and hold local elections only afterwards.
