HYDERABAD: Bengaluru police arrested two Nigerian women at the city’s airport on Sunday for allegedly carrying 37 kg of MDMA, a banned drug. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth Rs 75 crore, making it one of the largest drug busts in Karnataka’s history.
The arrested women have been identified as Bamba Fanta (31) and Abigail Adonis (30), both Nigerian nationals. The duo was apprehended upon their arrival at Bengaluru airport from Delhi. During baggage inspection, police discovered a significant quantity of MDMA hidden in their trolley bags.
Massive Drug Seizure at Bengaluru Airport
Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal provided details of the arrests, stating that apart from the drugs, authorities also confiscated four mobile phones, passports, and Rs 18,000 in Indian currency from the suspects.
Investigations revealed that these women were residing in Delhi and were allegedly involved in supplying MDMA across multiple Indian cities. They primarily used air travel to discreetly transport the drugs.
Frequent Drug Supply Via Flights
Police inquiries indicated that over the past year, the duo had undertaken 37 trips between Delhi and Mumbai and 22 trips to Bengaluru, allegedly smuggling drugs each time.
Further investigation uncovered that Bamba Fanta arrived in India in 2020 on a business visa, while Abigail Adonis had been residing in India since 2016. For the past two years, both women were reportedly operating a drug racket, facilitating the distribution of MDMA to various customers.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover more details about the supply chain and other individuals involved in the illegal operation.
