Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday demanded the immediate arrest of senior officers named in the suicide note of IPS officer Puran Kumar, who died in Chandigarh after allegedly facing caste-based harassment.
The officer, a native of Hyderabad, left a detailed note. He accused Haryana DGP Shatrujit Kapoor and eight other officials of caste discrimination, public humiliation, and sustained mental torture.
“This is highly unfortunate and deeply tragic. Strict action must be taken against all responsible,” Bhatti said in a statement. He noted that Puran Kumar’s wife, Amneet IAS, had already filed a police complaint demanding swift action.
Quoting the note, Bhatti condemned caste abuse within elite services like the IPS. He called it a shameful reflection of ongoing systemic failures. He insisted that the officials named in the letter must face immediate legal action.
Bhatti expressed shock that, even after 78 years of Independence, caste-driven discrimination and suicides still occur in top government ranks. He blamed the BJP government for enabling such conditions to persist.
Furthermore, he accused the BJP of encouraging caste-based bias, unlawful detentions, and harassment—especially against Dalits, Adivasis, Tribals, and Backward Classes.
He referred to National Crime Records Bureau data, which shows a sharp rise in such incidents under BJP rule. Bhatti demanded that the Haryana government act without delay and take strict action against the officers involved.
