Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Thursday morning said Andhra Pradesh Heavy Machinery & Engineering Limited (APHMEL) must aim for global competitiveness. Visiting the Singareni Collieries subsidiary at Ibrahimpatnam, near Vijayawada, along with Singareni CMD Balram, he interacted with employees before briefing the media.
Bhatti said that among engineering firms producing spare parts for new industries and repairing and supplying old components, none possessed better machinery or manpower than APHMEL. What the company required, he stressed, was commitment, a belief that “we can compete with the world,” and effective utilisation of existing systems. With these, APHMEL could match international standards.
Consultancy to guide APHMEL’s growth plan
A consultancy will soon be appointed to study local conditions and submit a report to shape the company’s future. Bhatti said stronger performance from officials and staff would raise profits, create more jobs for local youth, and drive the progress of both states.
He directed that the plant be maintained in top condition, with machinery overhauled, painted, and operated under strict safety protocols. He added that APHMEL’s work should not be limited to Singareni’s needs but should expand to orders from within Andhra Pradesh and across India, operating like BHEL. APHMEL already manufactures and repairs machinery for thermal power stations, and the government is assessing how to further strengthen its role.
