Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has called on cement and steel industries in Telangana to support the government’s flagship Indiramma housing scheme by supplying quality materials at reduced rates.
He made the appeal during a meeting with industry representatives on Tuesday, held at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat, alongside Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu.
Bhatti said the state has sanctioned the construction of 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses at an estimated cost of ₹22,500 crore. Construction is already underway across Telangana. He urged companies to adopt a humanitarian approach, noting that the state has long supported the cement and steel sectors.
He also stressed that Indiramma houses must receive the same grade of cement and steel used in high-rise buildings.
Uniform pricing, quality supply emphasized
Industries Minister Sridhar Babu said the Congress-led government had resumed large-scale welfare housing after a decade. He emphasized the need for all suppliers regardless of size to follow a uniform pricing model.
He said the state was seeing massive industrial growth, including expansions beyond Hyderabad. With rising demand expected, he urged industries to align their pricing with the government’s welfare goals and maintain product quality.
The ministers also reviewed cement pricing models currently used in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu for government projects.
Materials required for 4.5 lakh houses detailed
Officials informed the gathering that the state would need approximately 50 lakh metric tonnes of cement and 27.75 lakh metric tonnes of steel for the entire project.
Industry representatives welcomed the opportunity to contribute to the welfare initiative. They pledged to engage further with the Industries Department to finalise material pricing in the coming weeks.
Chief Secretary A. Ramakrishna Rao, Industries Department Director Nikhil Chakravarthy, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
