Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Tuesday accused the previous BRS government of actively working against people-centric welfare and holding back key schemes for a decade. Addressing a public meeting in Lakshmi Narasimhapuram, Illandu constituency of Mahabubabad district, he said it was the Congress government that is now delivering on long-pending promises.
He pointed out that during BRS rule, essential schemes like farm loan waivers, Indiramma housing, and Rajiv Yuva Vikasam were neglected despite abundant state resources. He accused the previous administration of using public wealth for its own gain, and questioned why no meaningful welfare programmes had reached the people under their leadership.
Bhatti recalled reports of tribal women farmers being tied to trees and beaten during the last regime. “They denied dignity, rights, and access to basic schemes. Today, we are rebuilding trust,” he said.
To that end, he announced that CM Revanth Reddy will launch the ₹12,500 crore Indira Giri Solar Water Development Scheme on May 18 at Chenchu Colony in Achampet, Nagarkurnool district. The scheme, aimed at tribal farmers, includes free solar pump sets, sprinklers, and distribution of income-generating plants like avocado and palm oil. Horticulture-linked income is planned every quarter.
He also confirmed a special push for Indiramma housing in tribal constituencies, as part of a broader programme to construct 4.5 lakh houses across Telangana—3,500 in each constituency—with ₹22,500 crore allocated.
The Deputy CM criticised BRS for never delivering a single double-bedroom house, failing to provide three acres to Dalits, and ignoring job creation. “Even after ₹7 lakh crore in loans, not one major industry, not one Nagarjuna Sagar–scale irrigation project was built,” he said.
He contrasted that with current efforts: Group-I exams reintroduced after Public Service Commission reforms, 57,000 jobs filled in 18 months, and another 30,000 soon to follow. He said sanction letters under the ₹9,000 crore Rajiv Yuva Vikasam self-employment scheme will be distributed on June 2.
On social media rumours, he clarified no CIBIL score is needed for eligibility. “The scheme is designed for youth without access to previous corporation loans,” he said.
He also said none of the earlier schemes like Kalyana Lakshmi had been discontinued. “In fact, Rythu Bharosa adds ₹2,000 more to what was being offered.”
On farm loans, he claimed ₹21,500 crore had already been disbursed, waiving up to ₹2 lakh per farmer, outperforming BRS’s unfulfilled ₹1 lakh promise.
He listed spending of ₹13,000 crore on fine rice distribution (6 kg/person/month to 90 lakh families), free RTC bus travel for all women, and free electricity for users below 200 units. “Nearly 90% of rural households don’t pay power bills anymore,” he said.
He claimed ₹12,500 crore has been paid by the government to cover 24-hour free power for farmers.
Bhatti said major irrigation projects ignored for a decade are now being funded with completion timelines of 6 months to 3 years. “This is only the beginning. Many more welfare programmes are coming,” he said.
