Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Thursday called on bankers across the state to play an active role in achieving the financial targets set for 2025–26, urging full support for the government’s extensive employment and welfare initiatives.
Addressing the State-Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) meeting in Hyderabad, Vikramarka stressed the centrality of a robust banking system to a state’s growth. “Only when banks are healthy can society and the state prosper,” he said, appealing to institutions to back government programmes wholeheartedly.
A key highlight was the rollout of the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme, aimed at facilitating self-employment for five lakh young individuals. The state has earmarked ₹6,250 crore as subsidies under the initiative, which targets skilled, educated youth and integrates them into the productive economy to drive GDP growth.
On June 2, the government plans to distribute sanction letters to all beneficiaries. The Deputy CM urged banks to expedite the disbursal process to meet this deadline. He also proposed appointing a dedicated nodal officer at the state level to coordinate implementation across financial institutions.
In agriculture, the government continues to prioritise investment. It has infused ₹21,000 crore into banks for farmer loan waivers and is actively encouraging horticulture and oil palm cultivation. Input support is being provided through the Rythu Bharosa scheme, with the state covering premiums under the Rythu Bima insurance scheme.
For tribal communities, the government has introduced the Indira Soura Giri Jal Vikasam programme to improve living standards in forest areas. Under this, a new project involving ₹12,600 crore will convert 6.7 lakh acres of ROFR (Recognition of Forest Rights) land into solar-powered cultivable land.
Women’s empowerment is another pillar of the state’s development agenda. Over ₹20,000 crore in interest-free loans have been extended to women’s groups this year alone, with a ₹1 lakh crore target over the next five years. The government is also facilitating economic opportunities such as leasing RTC buses to women and enabling them to set up solar power plants.
To drive energy transformation, Telangana is pursuing a New Energy Policy aimed at generating 20,000 megawatts of green energy by 2030.
Vikramarka also underscored the government’s focus on human resource development. Initiatives include fee reimbursement for students and the establishment of a Skill University, alongside advanced technology centres in every assembly constituency to provide industry-relevant training.
Urban infrastructure is another area receiving attention. A dedicated action plan is underway for the rejuvenation of the Musi River, while industrial clusters are being planned between the Outer Ring Road and the proposed Regional Ring Road to spur industrialisation.
