Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Wednesday reaffirmed the Congress government’s commitment to strengthening Telangana’s power sector. He highlighted the delivery of free electricity to lakhs of households and outlined major infrastructure works progressing across the state.
Addressing a public meeting in Parigi constituency after launching multiple development projects, Bhatti stated, “Congress itself is electricity, and electricity itself is Congress. Those who said power would stop under our rule are now facing the truth.”
53 lakh families benefit under Gruha Jyothi scheme
Bhatti reported that 53 lakh families across Telangana now receive free electricity up to 200 units under the Gruha Jyothi scheme. In Vikarabad district alone, 2.47 lakh households are enrolled, including 1.43 lakh from poor families. Parigi constituency accounts for 44,500 beneficiaries.
To support this, the government allocates ₹2,830 crore each month to the Electricity Department, with ₹42 crore earmarked for Vikarabad.
₹1,000 crore sanctioned for Parigi power works
The Deputy CM announced ₹1,000 crore in electricity development for Parigi. The projects include nine substations and new facilities at the 33/11 kV, 220 kV, and 400 kV levels.
He credited local MLA Rammohan Reddy for helping secure ₹3,000 crore for the Naivel defence-linked initiative. Bhatti noted that the previous government ignored the project for ten years. With funding now in place, it will generate major employment for local youth.

Road project revived after a decade
Bhatti also addressed long-pending road infrastructure. He reminded the public that the Manneguda–Bijapur road received approval during undivided Andhra Pradesh but remained untouched under BRS rule. Thanks to recent efforts, the Congress government resolved the NGT-2 case by October 30, allowing the four-lane project to restart.
He added that the government was fully supporting families impacted by a recent road accident.
“Prajabatha” initiative to boost public access
To improve outreach, Bhatti announced the launch of “Prajabatha” under the Electricity Department. Starting next week, officials will conduct outreach three days a week, visiting communities with mobile service vans to address electricity-related issues on the spot.
