Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday described former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao as a leading social reformer who built the foundation for an egalitarian society by implementing land reforms during his tenure as Chief Minister of Telangana, inspired by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
After paying floral tributes at PV Ghat on Necklace Road, Bhatti told the media it was a matter of pride that PV, Bharat Ratna awardee and architect of economic reforms, was born in Telangana.
He said PV’s contributions as Minister, Chief Minister, Union Minister, and later as Prime Minister brought major benefits to society. As the country’s first Human Resource Development Minister, PV promoted democratic values by pushing for a uniform education system.
Bhatti recalled that when PV became Prime Minister, India was facing severe economic and political crises. Despite these challenges, PV stabilised the nation’s systems and freed the country’s gold reserves, transforming India into a stronger global economy through his reforms.
He further said Congress governments had distributed more than 24 lakh acres of land to the poor, while in the last ten years, those who ruled the state harmed the poor through the Dharani portal and enabled encroachments.
To protect the lands given to the poor, Bhatti stated that the present government has introduced the Bhoobharati Act to safeguard their rights.
He reaffirmed that the Congress party would continue to follow the path laid down by PV Narasimha Rao without deviation, and offered tributes on the leader’s birth anniversary.
