Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday pledged major road development across Telangana. He said the Cabinet, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, would push infrastructure alongside welfare.
Speaking at the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) roads meeting at HITEX, Bhatti announced plans to build 7,947 km of roads through 17 packages under the Panchayat Raj Department. The Roads and Buildings Department will take up another 5,190 km in 17 packages. He said the government will call tenders soon for projects approved by the Cabinet.
Bhatti described roads as “symbols of civilization” that move goods from remote areas, expand industry, and create jobs. He said the state was driving progress in infrastructure, industry, education, and healthcare under the “Telangana’s Rising” initiative.
He called contractors, industrialists, and investors partners in wealth creation. Bhatti criticised previous governments for approving works worth ₹1.75 lakh crore and issuing tokens for ₹45,000 crore without clearing dues, leaving a financial burden. He said the present administration was improving the fiscal situation and addressing contractor concerns.
The Deputy Chief Minister told officials to list roads that need four-lane upgrades and place the proposals before the Cabinet. He said the state would contribute 40% funding for HAM projects and mobilise the rest. He assured contractors that payments would be prompt and added that small contractors would also get work in HAM projects.
