Hyderabad: Eleven students and a teacher fell seriously ill after drinking poisoned water at the Urban Residential Hostel in Bhupalapally district. Police later found that a teacher spiked the drinking water tank with pesticide.
The incident triggered panic in the school premises and forced immediate medical attention. Affected children and the teacher were rushed to Bhupalapally Area Hospital, where they are being treated. Their condition is reported stable.
Investigators said science teacher Rajender mixed pesticide in the hostel’s drinking water tank. Preliminary inquiry suggested he acted out of anger against the principal. Officials confirmed that 11 students and one staff member consumed the contaminated water before symptoms appeared.
Following a complaint by the principal, the district collector and superintendent of police began an inquiry. Police detained Rajender and questioned him over the act. Officials described the case as a deliberate attempt that endangered the lives of children.
Authorities assured that further action would follow based on the investigation. Efforts are underway to tighten water safety and ensure such incidents do not recur in educational hostels.
