HYDERABAD: A bird flu outbreak has been confirmed in a poultry farm located in Abdullapurmet Mandal, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Over the past four days, thousands of chickens have perished at the farm, raising significant concern among local poultry farmers and residents.
Upon observing the sudden surge in poultry deaths, authorities collected samples and dispatched them to a laboratory for analysis. The results confirmed the presence of the bird flu virus, leading to heightened anxiety among farm owners. Initially, the deaths were attributed to the prevailing heat; consequently, proper culling procedures were not immediately implemented. This oversight has prompted officials to now collect samples from all workers employed at the affected poultry farm to ensure their safety.
The outbreak has also instilled fear among residents of nearby villages. In response, authorities are contemplating declaring the affected area a red zone to prevent further spread of the virus. Additionally, similar cases have been identified in Nalgonda district’s Gundrampalli and Dothigudem, where bird flu was detected in three poultry farms. In these instances, officials have safely culled the infected birds and designated a five-kilometre radius around the farms as a red zone to contain the outbreak.
Residents and poultry farmers are advised to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to biosecurity measures to mitigate the spread of avian influenza.
