Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday accused the BJP of obstructing the 42% BC reservation legislation and preventing a meeting with the President of India to stall its approval.
Speaking to reporters in Delhi after leading a massive Congress protest at Jantar Mantar, Revanth charged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah with deliberately blocking access to the President. “They are sabotaging Telangana’s demand for justice,” he said.
He criticised the BJP for stalling the bills and claimed the BRS was equally complicit. “Instead of joining the protest, BRS leaders chose to talk about insults. Their silence exposes their double standards,” Revanth said. He warned that the people of Telangana would not spare either party.
Revanth defends caste census, BC quota bills
Revanth said the state government had completed a detailed caste census to determine the true size of the BC population. “We decided on 42% reservation only after analysing the data. This is not politics it’s justice,” he asserted.
He said the Congress-led government had introduced two bills to extend 42% reservations to BCs across education, employment, and local bodies. Revanth blamed the previous BRS government for capping reservations at 50%, forcing the current administration to bring in an ordinance to override it.
Despite the Assembly passing both bills unanimously, Revanth said the President had not given assent even after four months. “All field-level work is complete. Yet the Centre is delaying it without reason,” he said.
Opposition support, national push for BC rights
Revanth said he had come to Delhi to escalate the issue nationally. “More than 100 MPs supported our dharna,” he noted. Leaders from DMK, NCP, SP, and other INDIA bloc parties joined the protest, he added.
He said Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge had praised Telangana’s caste census model. “Every minister, MLA, and MLC from Telangana participated in the protest regardless of caste,” he said. Revanth reaffirmed that the party was fulfilling the BC quota promise made by Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
