Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has initiated its candidate selection process for the upcoming local body elections in Telangana. State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao announced that the party aims to contest all levels from ward member to ZPTC and has begun finalising names, starting with ZPTC candidates.
Rao said party functionaries have been instructed to issue B-forms in constituencies with unanimous support. “People are looking to the BJP for development-focused governance,” he said, expressing confidence that the party would secure a majority.
Party gears up for grassroots contest
Following the State Election Commission’s poll schedule, the BJP convened a meeting with MLAs, MPs, district in-charges, and key leaders to begin candidate shortlisting. District presidents have been directed to intensify groundwork.
Rao called on voters to back the BJP to ensure village-level progress, citing central schemes like PM-Kisan, rural road development, and Har Ghar Jal. He accused the previous BRS regime of crippling panchayats by diverting central funds, leading to a financial crisis among sarpanches. Rao claimed the current Congress government has also failed to deliver on schemes like Rythu Bharosa.
He reiterated BJP’s opposition to political reservations for BC-E Muslims while affirming support for BC quotas in education and jobs, as originally provided.
BJP slams rivals, demands probe into Kaleshwaram
The BJP leader demanded a full inquiry into the Kaleshwaram project, not limited to Medigadda and Sundilla, but the entire scheme. He urged the government to implement repair recommendations listed in the NDSA report.
Rao also criticised the two-year delay in holding local body elections, stating they were finally scheduled only after High Court intervention linked to central funding.
On party discipline, Rao asserted that any BJP elected representative seeking to switch parties must resign from their position first.
Earlier in the day, Rao chaired a strategy meeting at the Karimnagar Parliamentary Office. Senior leaders, including Krishna Reddy, Dr. Gautham Rao, N.V. Subhash, mandal presidents, and ZPTC conveners, attended the session.
