Hyderabad: BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao said the party had begun the process of selecting candidates for the upcoming local body elections. Speaking to the media in Karimnagar on Wednesday, he announced that the BJP would first declare ZPTC candidates.
He asserted that the party would contest all positions, from ward member to ZPTC, and win the majority. Rao said neither the Congress nor the BRS deserved votes in these elections. He accused the BRS of diverting central funds and weakening local bodies, leading to the distress of sarpanches, some of whom died by suicide.
BJP vows to fight Congress and BRS in polls
Rao alleged that the BRS ruined panchayats to the point where they could not even pay power bills. He said people must support the BJP to restore village development. According to him, while BRS looted the state, Congress deceived voters by failing to deliver on promises.
He claimed that central grants drove rural development, but the state government created artificial fertiliser shortages despite a ₹40,000 crore subsidy from the Centre. He said electing the BJP would ensure central funds reached villages.
On BC reservations, Rao said the government delayed amendments for two years, showing no intent to hold elections. He alleged that polls were now being held only because of High Court orders. Rao reiterated the BJP’s commitment to BC quotas but opposed political reservations for BCE Muslims, stating they should remain limited to education and employment.
He also demanded a full probe into corruption in the Kaleshwaram project instead of restricting investigations to Medigadda and Sundilla. He warned against defections, saying leaders joining BJP must resign from their posts first.
