Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Sunday challenged State Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao to a public debate over the ongoing urea shortage, accusing the Congress-led state government of misleading farmers and hiding supply failures.
Speaking at a press conference in Gadwal, Ramchander Rao said the urea crisis in Telangana was unique, not seen in any other state. He claimed the Centre had supplied 12.2 lakh metric tonnes of urea, while the state requested only 9.5 lakh metric tonnes. “Where did the remaining 2.5 lakh tonnes go?” he asked, urging farmers to confront the government.
He said the BJP would produce full details of Union government allocations if the minister agreed to a debate. Ramchander Rao accused the Congress government of shifting blame onto the Centre ahead of local elections while enabling black market operations through intermediaries.
He claimed that middlemen were hoarding urea and misleading farmers, while state officials ignored their responsibilities. “This is a deliberate campaign to deflect from state-level inefficiency,” he alleged.
Calling on voters to hold Congress accountable in the upcoming local body polls, Ramchander Rao urged farmers to demand explanations from Congress representatives. “They’ve endangered livelihoods by failing on fertilizer management,” he said.
