Hyderabad: A political storm erupted in Hyderabad’s NGO’s Colony when BJP leaders forcefully demolished a foundation stone plaque for a new library building after discovering that the name of Malkajgiri BJP MP Etela Rajender had been omitted.
The incident took place during the inauguration of the new library structure, where the plaque listing dignitaries involved in the project did not mention Etela Rajender, who represents the area in Parliament. Angered by this exclusion, Rangareddy district BJP president Vanepalli Srinivas Reddy and BN Reddy Nagar division corporator Moddu Lachireddy led a group of party workers in dismantling the plaque on site.
The protest highlights ongoing tensions within local civic and political circles, where the omission of an elected MP’s name, particularly the sitting MP of the constituency, was perceived as a deliberate slight.
BJP leaders condemned the act as an insult to Etela Rajender’s position and contribution, demanding accountability for the oversight. The event, intended to mark a civic development milestone, has now turned into a flashpoint for political confrontation.
Officials have yet to comment on who authorised the plaque and why the MP’s name was left out. The BJP has called for immediate rectification and an apology from the organisers.
