Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Monday declared that the party would allocate the highest number of seats to Backward Classes (BCs) in the upcoming local body elections.
Rao made the announcement while addressing a delegation of OBC representatives who called on him after he assumed charge as the state party chief.
BJP Accuses Congress of Misleading BCs
He asserted that the BJP would prioritise BCs regardless of whether the Congress government grants them formal reservations.
“The BJP has always worked for the upliftment of BCs,” Rao said. He pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet includes 27 BC ministers and noted that only the Modi government had constituted a national BC Commission.
Rao demanded the Congress-led state government make the recent caste census public. He accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of trying to mislead BCs by proposing 42% reservations when, according to leaked figures, the BC population stands at 52%.
Criticism of BC-E Quota Allocation
He also raised objections to how BC-E reservations were handled in Greater Hyderabad. “GHMC has 52 councillor seats. But 35 of them went to Muslims under BC-E, sidelining genuine BC groups like Yadavas and Gouds,” he said.
Rao called on OBC communities to back the BJP in both local and Assembly elections to secure their rightful political representation.
