Hyderabad: Minister for Endowments Konda Surekha on Thursday accused the BJP of opposing both women’s rights and reservations for backward classes, stating the party had no moral authority to comment on inclusive policies.
Speaking in Delhi, the Minister said the BJP’s track record showed it consistently worked against the interests of backward communities and women. “We cannot expect them to advocate for any section of the people,” she said.
Responding to criticism over her remarks about President Droupadi Murmu during the BC dharna, Surekha said she stood by her comments. “I said what needed to be said. There was nothing inappropriate,” she clarified.
She also condemned what she called a “malicious campaign” against her by BJP leaders and criticised their behaviour as undignified.
Call for Parliament action on BC quota
Later in the day, Konda Surekha joined Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in urging AICC president and Rajya Sabha Opposition Leader Mallikarjun Kharge to pressure the Centre to approve the 42% BC reservation bills. The proposed laws seek quotas for BCs in local bodies, education, and government jobs.
