Hyderabad: The BJP on Sunday issued a notification for the election of its Telangana state president. Party sources said nominations would be accepted on Monday, with polling likely on Tuesday.
Several names are being considered for the post, including Rajya Sabha member Dr. Laxman, Lok Sabha MPs Etela Rajender and Dharmapuri Arvind, and former president Bandi Sanjay.
DK Aruna is also trying to enter the race under the women’s quota, while Ramachandra Rao and Telloju Achari have reportedly requested the central leadership for a chance.
The election process will be overseen by Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje, who has been appointed as the party’s returning officer.
With the current Telangana Congress chief from the BC (Backward Classes) community, and the state government recently announcing 42% reservations for BCs, BJP is also weighing the possibility of giving the post to a BC leader.
In this context, Etela Rajender, Dr. Laxman, or Dharmapuri Arvind are seen as the strongest contenders for the role.
