Hyderabad: BJP state president N. Ramchandra Rao on Monday extended full support to the college bandh called by private college managements in Telangana. The bandh is being held to demand the immediate release of long-pending fee reimbursement arrears from the state government.
Addressing the media at the BJP state office in Hyderabad, Rao said private colleges are facing an unprecedented financial crisis due to non-payment of dues. “Colleges are unable to pay salaries to professors, lecturers, and staff. The government’s inaction has forced institutions across Telangana to shut down temporarily,” he said.
Congress blamed for financial crisis
Rao alleged that the Congress government has not released a single rupee towards fee reimbursement in the last two years, despite arrears crossing ₹8,000 crore. He said that although the government held talks with college managements over the past six months, it failed to make any concrete decisions.
He also criticised the unfulfilled Congress election promise to issue ₹5 lakh Education Assurance Cards to students. “The education system in the state is collapsing. Even retired teachers are being denied pensions,” he added.
Referring to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s earlier visit to Osmania University, Rao said the promise of ₹1,000 crore in educational funds remains unfulfilled. He demanded immediate government action to protect students, teachers, and private institutions.
