BRS donations drop by 97% in 2024–25 financial year

Hyderabad: Donations to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) plummeted by over 97% in the 2024–25 financial year, with the party declaring just ₹15.09 crore in contributions.

Party general secretary Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy disclosed the figures in a report submitted to the Election Commission of India. The party received ₹10 crore from Progressive Electoral Trust and ₹5 crore from Prudent Electoral Trust. Individual donors included S. Rajender Reddy, who gave ₹8.79 lakh, and Mohammad Azhar, who donated ₹29,000.

The sharp decline contrasts with the ₹580.52 crore reported in 2023–24, of which ₹495.52 crore came through electoral bonds. That year, Prudent Electoral Trust alone contributed ₹85 crore.

BRS donations drop after bond-based funding halted

In 2022–23, the party collected ₹683.06 crore, with ₹529 crore via electoral bonds, ₹90 crore from Prudent Electoral Trust, and ₹64.03 crore from other sources.

The near-total collapse in donations this year follows the Supreme Court’s decision to scrap the electoral bonds scheme, which had been the main channel for high-value political funding. BRS, like several major parties, had heavily relied on that route for contributions in earlier years.
