Hyderabad: Amid mounting pressure over the Kaleshwaram project commission report, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is facing a fresh political crisis, with ten former MLAs reportedly preparing to switch to the BJP.
Former Achampet MLA Guvvala Balaraju and former Alampur MLA Abraham have resigned from the BRS and are said to be moving towards the BJP. Meanwhile, former legislators embroiled in the Operation Farmhouse case – Beeram Harshavardhan Reddy, Rega Kantha Rao, and Pilot Rohith Reddy – are also rumoured to be in talks with BJP leaders.
First batch of BRS defections set for August 9
Sources indicate that four former MLAs from the old Palamuru and Ranga Reddy districts are likely to join the BJP on August 9 in Delhi, in the presence of senior BJP leader B.L. Santosh. Among them are reportedly two to three ex-MLAs from Nagarkurnool and one from the former Ranga Reddy district.
A second batch of defections is also expected, with six more former BRS leaders from Palamuru, Khammam, and other regions likely to join the BJP soon. Some of these leaders have reportedly held closed-door talks with B.L. Santosh, explaining their role in the Operation Farmhouse case and claiming they acted on instructions from KCR.
KTR’s Delhi visit stirs speculation
Amid the defection buzz, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao’s sudden visit to Delhi has triggered fresh speculation. Party sources claim he is attending an Election Commission meeting, but his silence on recent remarks by Anakapalli BJP MP C.M. Ramesh – suggesting a BRS-BJP merger – has not gone unnoticed.
With two former MLAs already quitting BRS and several others reportedly in talks with the BJP, the timing of KTR’s Delhi trip has become a hot topic in political circles.
