Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) postponed its BC Garjana rally in Karimnagar to August 14, citing heavy rains. The rally was earlier scheduled for August 8.
BRS MLA and former minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav announced the rescheduling on Thursday. He reiterated the party’s demand for 42% reservation for Backward Classes in education, employment, and local governance.
Speaking at Telangana Bhavan, Srinivas Yadav accused the Congress of staging political drama in Delhi while ignoring the BC community’s needs on the ground. He questioned the party’s commitment to the Kamareddy declaration, which had promised both a 42% quota and a Rs 1 lakh crore BC welfare fund. “Where is it now?” he asked.
He also pointed to the absence of top Congress figures Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge at the recent protest in Delhi, contrasting it with the presence of leaders from the INDIA bloc.
Yadav demanded that the state government delay all local body polls until the 42% BC reservation is enforced. He said BRS would continue to push for inclusion of the reservation legislation in the Ninth Schedule, following the Tamil Nadu model.
Council Opposition Leader S. Madhusudhana Chari echoed the demand, stating the party had backed the bill in both Houses. “Congress never consulted us in Delhi. They knew we would expose their contradictions,” he said.
Former minister V. Srinivas Goud accused Congress of tokenism, noting the ordinance sent to the Governor only addressed local body elections. “They ignored education and job quotas, and gave BCs minimal space in the Cabinet,” he said.
