Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Friday accused the MLAs who joined Congress of lying to escape disqualification. In a tweet, the party said the defected MLAs had now claimed they were still with BRS, despite publicly switching sides.
BRS shared news clippings showing the MLAs meeting Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and wearing Congress khandwas. The party said the MLAs were falsely justifying the meeting as being related to development works, while trying to mislead the Speaker with their statements.
It said the MLAs, who betrayed the party that gave them political life, were now rattled and trying to avoid the consequences. BRS claimed the MLAs were scared after realising that a Supreme Court verdict had made bypolls certain and their defeat even more so.
Defected MLAs face backlash after Congress switch
The party pointed out that these MLAs had not taken part in any BRS protests or activities, including legislative party meetings and the party’s silver jubilee celebrations. Yet, they were now asserting that they remained in the party.
BRS alleged the defectors had no remorse and no concern for what voters would think. It said the Congress was making a mockery of democracy by encouraging such actions, and described the MLAs’ claims as a shameless attempt to dodge disqualification.
