BRS suspends MLC K. Kavitha for anti-party activities

BRS suspends Kavitha

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Tuesday suspended MLC K. Kavitha for what it described as persistent anti-party activities and public criticism of party leadership.

Leadership cites breach of discipline

In a statement signed by party general secretaries Soma Bharat Kumar and T. Ravinder Rao, the party said the suspension followed directions from BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao. They pointed to Kavitha’s open dissent and repeated violations of party norms as the reason for disciplinary action.

Party sources indicated that Kavitha had been preparing for this outcome. Reports suggest she may soon launch a new party under the name “Telangana Bahujana Rashtra Samithi,” with a focus on Backward Classes. There is also speculation she might revive the “TRS” name for political continuity and public recall.

MLC resignation on the cards

Following her suspension, Kavitha is said to be considering resigning from her MLC post. She reportedly believes continuing in a BRS-nominated position while opposing the party’s stance would lack ethical ground. A resignation would signal a complete break from her current affiliation.

The move has triggered speculation over the future of Telangana Jagruthi, a cultural organisation closely linked to Kavitha. Political observers are watching to see whether its cadre will back her new political path or remain with BRS.

Twist in the tale: Suspension signed by former legal aide

The suspension order was notably signed by Soma Bharat, who had earlier represented Kavitha in the Delhi liquor policy scam case. His role in her ouster has drawn attention within political circles.

BRS has directed party leaders not to make personal comments about Kavitha. Instead, it instructed them to focus public messaging on the damage her actions have caused to the party. Women leaders are expected to address the media later in the day.
