BRS terms Operation KAGAR a corporate assault on Adivasis, demands judicial probe

Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dr Dasoju Sravan Kumar on Monday accused the Centre of using Operation KAGAR as a cover for displacing Adivasis and transferring their land and resources to corporate entities. Speaking at the party’s Maha Dharna at Indira Park, he called the operation a calculated attack on tribal rights.

Dr Sravan described the operation as “State-sponsored aggression” and alleged that it violated constitutional guarantees. He said the campaign was an excuse for land acquisition in tribal areas and branded it “Operation Corporate Grab.”

The MLC said the Constitution allowed citizens to raise questions, and equating dissent with extremism was undemocratic. “Maoists are asking for equality, liberty, dignity not war,” he said, arguing that the state was responding with force rather than dialogue.

He accused the government of denying tribals and other marginalised groups access to basic services and economic support. “In a system where even a loan is out of reach, protest becomes inevitable,” he said.

Sravan claimed the government’s strategy was pushing the country toward prolonged unrest. He reiterated that suppression of dissent through violence was not sustainable. “Only dialogue, not bullets, will bring peace,” he said.

He stated that the BRS supported an unconditional ceasefire and immediate peace talks. This, he said, was the position laid out by K. Chandrashekar Rao at the Warangal Sabha.

BRS, he added, was prepared to launch a political and moral fight if the government continued to use armed operations against tribal communities. “The state’s legitimacy ends where its humanity ends,” he said.

Dr Sravan demanded that Operation KAGAR be halted immediately. He called for a judicial probe into civilian deaths during the operation, constitutional protections for tribal land, and enforcement of Gram Sabha consent under the Fifth Schedule. He urged the Centre to initiate negotiations for a democratic solution to the Maoist conflict.
