Hyderabad, January 28: MP Raghunandan Rao has criticised the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for withdrawing from the upcoming Member of Legislative Council (MLC) election in Medak district. Speaking at the TNGO Bhavan in Medak on Tuesday, he questioned how a party that boasts of having prominent leaders could lack a candidate in Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s home district. He pointed out that in the Warangal election, BRS brought in a candidate from another party and spent Rs. 50 crore, yet now, in the Karimnagar and Medak MLC elections, the party has chosen to withdraw.
Raghunandan Rao emphasised that Medak is known for its history of movements and has many activists. He mentioned individuals like Devi Prasad, who took voluntary retirement a decade ago, trusting BRS, and questioned why the party is not contesting now. He remarked that while the ‘Yuvraja’ (referring to a young leader) is active elsewhere, the party has withdrawn from the race in its foundational area. He demanded that BRS provide an explanation to the public for this decision.
He further stated that the party’s transformation from TRS to BRS marked its decline, not only in the district but also in the state. He expressed confidence that educators would always support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and claimed that the public has given BRS a ‘voluntary retirement scheme’.
