Hyderabad: Tension broke out in Hyderabad after BRS workers attacked the office of a Telugu news channel over its coverage of K.T. Rama Rao in the phone tapping case. Stones were thrown at the studio and parked vehicles outside the building. Glass panels at the entrance were damaged.
The incident came shortly after a protest led by BRSV state president Gellu Srinivas outside the channel’s office. The demonstration, initially peaceful, turned aggressive as party members entered the premises and vandalised property. A few BRS leaders reportedly sustained injuries during the scuffle.
Earlier in the day, K.T. Rama Rao had issued a warning against what he called a sustained defamation campaign targeting him and senior BRS leadership. In a statement, he accused sections of the media of acting in collusion to spread “false and malicious” content, and threatened legal consequences.
He alleged that certain journalists and media promoters were misusing press freedom to push personal agendas and launch coordinated attacks. “They are not acting alone. This is an organised attempt. Some media groups have turned into a gang,” he said.
Rama Rao also said the campaign was not affecting him personally but had caused distress to his family. “Their constant character assassination is having a serious impact on my family members and party workers,” he said.
He added that the party would respond legally to every individual involved, including those directing operations from behind the scenes. The attack on the news channel occurred hours after his statement was made public.
Some lowlifes masquerading as journalists running media houses have been spewing venom on me and my party leadership since the last few months
While I hardly care for their opinions or existence, the repeated attacks of character assassination are taking a toll on my family,…
