HYDERABAD, February 2: The Telangana State Planning Department is set to present the findings of the recently conducted caste census to the Cabinet Sub-Committee today at 2 PM. Principal Secretary Sandeep Sultania will hand over the report during a meeting at the Secretariat, chaired by Sub-Committee Chairman N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. Co-Chairman Damodar Raja Narasimha, along with members Ministers Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar, Seethakka, and MP Mallu Ravi, are expected to attend.
Following today’s deliberations, the Sub-Committee plans to submit the report for approval at the State Cabinet meeting scheduled for the morning of February 5. Subsequently, the government intends to table the report in a special Assembly session that afternoon, where it will be discussed and potentially ratified.
The government established the Cabinet Sub-Committee on October 19 of the previous year to oversee the comprehensive household survey assessing citizens’ social, economic, educational, employment, political, and caste statuses. The Planning Department has successfully completed this extensive survey and prepared the final report.
Approval of the caste census report is anticipated to advance the provision of 42% reservations for Backward Classes in local bodies. The BC Dedicated Commission has already concluded its examination of reservation matters. In light of the Congress party’s BC Declaration and promises regarding SC categorisation, Assembly endorsement of the caste census is poised to be a significant milestone for the government.
