Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken charge of the probe into the murder of lawyer couple Gattu Vaman Rao and Nagamani, following directions from the Supreme Court.
The agency registered an FIR naming Veladi Vasanth Rao, Kunta Srinivas, and Akkapaka Kumar as accused. Inspector Vipin Gehlot will serve as the investigating officer. CBI officials said they would examine the case thoroughly from all angles.
CBI takes charge of Vaman Rao–Nagamani murder case
On February 17, 2021, assailants hacked the High Court advocates to death in broad daylight near Kalvacharla in Ramagiri mandal of Peddapalli district, sparking statewide outrage. Telangana police earlier arrested several suspects in connection with the killings.
However, Vaman Rao’s father, Gattu Kishan Rao, opposed the state police probe and petitioned the Supreme Court for a CBI inquiry. On August 12, the apex court ordered the transfer of the case. With the CBI’s entry, investigators have restarted the probe.
