Hyderabad: The Centre has assured full support to Telangana in addressing the ongoing fertilizer shortage during the Kharif season, following an appeal by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy during his visit to Delhi. Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers JP Nadda confirmed the commitment on Wednesday, directing officials to ensure steady urea supply to the state.
Revanth Reddy had met Nadda on Tuesday to brief him on the urea deficit and sought uninterrupted fertilizer supply through July and August. The chief minister flagged urgent demand from farmers across the state amid rising Kharif cultivation activity.
Nadda responded by instructing his ministry to prioritize Telangana’s fertilizer needs. He also directed state government officials to prevent stock diversion and ensure equitable distribution across districts.
The Union minister raised concern over the 21 percent rise in urea consumption in Telangana during the 2024–25 Rabi season compared to the previous year. He reiterated the Centre’s aim to discourage excessive use of chemical fertilizers and promote natural alternatives under the Pranam scheme.
Nadda stated that incentives are being extended to states that adopt organic and traditional farming methods. He urged Telangana to align with this policy shift to ensure long-term soil health and sustainable agriculture.
