HYDERABAD: In the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, the Union government has moved into high alert. On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally contacted the Chief Ministers of all states, issuing critical instructions.
The Centre ordered states to identify Pakistan nationals residing within their jurisdictions and ensure their immediate deportation. It also announced the cancellation of all visas previously issued to Pakistan citizens.
Pakistan nationals have been directed to leave India within a week. In response, the Telangana government has heightened vigilance, particularly in Hyderabad. City police have gathered complete information on Pakistan citizens currently residing in Hyderabad, identifying 208 individuals. Authorities have instructed all of them to leave within two days.
The terror attack in Pahalgam occurred on Tuesday, 22 April, when terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on a group of tourists visiting the Baisaran meadow area, popularly known as “Mini Switzerland.” In the brutal assault, 26 innocent civilians were killed, while several others sustained serious bullet injuries.
Following the massacre, Indian security forces have launched an extensive search operation across Jammu and Kashmir to track down those responsible. The Indian government, citing evidence of Pakistan’s involvement, has severed diplomatic ties with the neighbouring country.
As part of this crackdown, the Centre has cancelled all categories of visas issued to Pakistan nationals and ordered their departure from India within a week.
