Hyderabad: The Central government has made major changes to the PM Surya Ghar Yojana (PMSGY) for rooftop solar plants. It announced that separate net metering agreements are no longer needed. The Centre also directed states to drop all net metering charges.
Centre simplifies PM Surya Ghar Yojana process
The Ministry of Power asked all states to make the PMSGY procedure simpler. The scheme began in 2024, and the Centre reviews its progress regularly. Officials said applicants can now use a digital agreement through the PMSGY portal instead of signing a separate contract.
Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Jharkhand, and Haryana already accept digital agreements. The Centre urged other states to adopt the same system. It also confirmed that 17 states have removed net metering charges.
The ministry continues to track the scheme’s rollout to ensure faster rooftop solar adoption across India.
