Hyderabad: A cybercrime racket involving the Chamet app has shocked Suryapet district. Several individuals reportedly turned to obscene video calls and chats to earn quick money. The scam surfaced in Mattampally mandal and quickly raised concern among police and locals alike.
Chamet app racket exposed in Suryapet district
Police said a few residents of Mattampally mandal promoted the Chamet app by promising easy earnings. During the inquiry, investigators found that some women joined the app and engaged in nude video calls with strangers. Meanwhile, one woman and one man allegedly encouraged others to join and earn money through indecent interactions.
Over 200 users identified across tandas
Authorities discovered that residents from Krishna Tanda, Ramachandrapuram Tanda, Hemla Tanda, and Gurrambod Tanda were using the app. Moreover, police estimated that more than 200 people had installed Chamet for monetary gain. However, investigators said the promoters trapped participants with false claims of high income and digital fame.
Police tighten cyber vigilance in the district
Suryapet District SP Narasimha said police would take firm action against those promoting or profiting from the app. Additionally, he urged the public to avoid such online traps. Therefore, the district’s cyber teams have begun tracing transactions linked to the app. Furthermore, police are increasing awareness campaigns to prevent similar digital exploitation in the future.
