Hyderabad: Mumbai Crime Branch police uncovered a major drug racket in Hyderabad through a covert “decoration operation,” sending a constable disguised as a daily wage worker into a pharma unit. The operation confirmed large-scale manufacturing of narcotics inside Vagdevi Labs at Charlapally, leading to raids and multiple arrests.
Undercover cop exposes Charlapally drug racket
Investigators confirmed that drugs were being produced after the constable infiltrated the facility as a labourer. Police later raided the lab, arresting prime accused Srinivas and Vijay Oleti, along with Tanaji Patwari. A Bangladeshi woman, Fatima, linked to the supply network in Hyderabad, was also taken into custody.
The probe is being led by ACP Dattatray Shinde and Inspector Pramod of Mumbai Crime Branch’s DVI-4 unit. Police said the gang operated through a layered network, ensuring that lower-level operatives had no knowledge of higher contacts. So far, 10 people have been arrested.
Oleti gang linked to Mephidrine supply
According to investigators, the Oleti gang mislabeled raw chemical drums and shifted them to Hyderabad for mephidrine production. The processed drug was supplied to “techies” in the city and trafficked further to Mumbai, Goa, and Bengaluru.
Police confirmed that chemicals and raw materials seized from the lab were transported back to Maharashtra. Telangana narcotics authorities had earlier seized 107 kg of mephidrine in the state and were already tracking the Oleti network.
Probe extended to other Hyderabad industrial hubs
Investigators are now examining companies in Charlapally, Nacharam, and Mallapur industrial areas to identify units engaged in illicit production. Officials said scrutiny is also underway on firms that remain inactive or maintain suspicious operations.
