Hyderabad’s Charminar and Golconda Fort ranked among India’s top 10 most visited tourist sites in 2023-24, highlighting the city’s growing tourism appeal.
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad’s Charminar and Golconda Fort have earned national recognition in the tourism sector, ranking among India’s top 10 most visited historical sites. According to a report by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for the financial year 2023-24, these two landmarks witnessed a significant increase in tourist footfall.
Golconda Fort secured the fourth position, while Charminar was ranked ninth on the list of India’s most-visited monuments. The Taj Mahal in Agra topped the list, attracting 6.1 million visitors within a year.
Post-Pandemic Tourism Growth in Hyderabad
The ASI report highlighted that India’s tourism industry has been steadily recovering since the COVID-19 pandemic, and Hyderabad’s inclusion in the top rankings is a clear example of this trend. The city recorded a 30% increase in tourism post-pandemic, driven by its rich historical heritage and famous cuisine.
Tourist Footfall at Charminar and Golconda Fort
During the financial year 2023-24, a total of 2.8 million tourists visited Charminar and Golconda Fort combined. These visitors came from various states across India, showcasing Hyderabad’s growing appeal as a historical and cultural hub.
The recognition of these iconic landmarks further reinforces Hyderabad’s status as a key destination for history enthusiasts and travellers looking to explore India’s architectural marvels.
