Hyderabad: OpenAI on Tuesday announced the launch of ChatGPT Go, its first country-specific subscription plan, priced at ₹399 per month for users in India. The company said the rollout would be gradual and supported by local payment methods including UPI. OpenAI also confirmed plans to expand the subscription tier to other countries in the near future.
The new plan aims to make advanced AI tools more affordable and accessible. It offers ten times higher limits compared to the free version, including more daily messages with GPT-5, additional image generations, and increased file uploads. Subscribers also gain access to double the memory length for personalised responses, according to the company.

Powered entirely by GPT-5, ChatGPT Go supports Indian languages and is positioned alongside existing subscription tiers. These include ChatGPT Plus at ₹1,999 per month, which offers priority access and higher performance, and ChatGPT Pro at ₹19,900 per month, aimed at professionals and enterprises seeking advanced customisation and GPT-5 Pro.
Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, said millions of Indians already rely on the platform for learning, creativity, and work. “ChatGPT Go makes these capabilities more accessible and easier to pay for using UPI,” he said.
India is ChatGPT’s second-largest market and among its fastest growing. OpenAI reported that ChatGPT leads global competitors in lifetime revenue per install, averaging $2.91, ahead of Anthropic’s Claude at $2.55, Elon Musk’s Grok at $0.75, and Microsoft’s Copilot app at $0.27.
GPT-5 is available to all users, while Plus subscribers receive higher usage and Pro subscribers gain access to GPT-5 Pro, which features extended reasoning for more complex responses.
