Hyderabad: A crumbling government school in Cheruvu Singaram village, Burgampadu mandal, has pushed its students into a shed after parts of the ceiling collapsed, prompting alarm among parents and staff.
The 35-year-old primary school building in Bhadradri Kothagudem district has become unfit for use. A section of the concrete slab caved in recently, though no injuries occurred since the school was closed that day. Still, parents warned that the structure remains dangerous and must be vacated.
Rusted iron rods now hang from the ceiling. Rainwater collects on the roof and seeps into electrical points, causing minor shocks to students. Parents say their children fear entering the classrooms.
Despite repeated complaints to local MLA Payam Venkateswarlu and the education department, officials have only done minor patchwork repairs. “Whenever cement falls from the ceiling, they do a quick fix. But nothing changes,” said Balaram, a parent.
The school, which has around 35 students, has now shifted classes to a nearby Anganwadi shed. Parents stressed that most children come from low-income families and cannot afford private education. They urged the government to sanction a new building without delay.
