Hyderabad: Police arrested five members of a gang in Chevella on the outskirts of Hyderabad after a yoga guru fell victim to a honeytrap.
Police said the guru, Ranga Reddy, ran a yoga ashram in Chevella. Two women joined the ashram claiming health issues. They gained his trust within days and grew close to him. They later took photos and videos with him and passed the content to a group known as the “Amar gang.”
Gang extorted ₹50 lakh, demanded more
The gang used the content to blackmail the guru. At first, he ignored them, but later he gave in under pressure and paid ₹50 lakh. The gang then demanded another ₹2 crore, warning that they would release the photos and videos if he refused.
Unable to bear the threats, the guru approached the Golconda police and lodged a complaint. Police registered a case and arrested five key suspects. The probe continues to identify others involved in the honeytrap.
