HYDERABAD: After weeks of low demand due to bird flu concerns, chicken sales in the Telugu states have seen a strong resurgence. As temperatures rise and bird flu fears diminish, consumers are flocking back to poultry markets, causing a significant increase in sales and prices.
On Sunday, chicken shops saw long queues of customers, a stark contrast to the previous weeks when sales had sharply declined. The renewed demand has led to a ₹50 per kilogram price hike across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Despite the increase, consumers, who had avoided poultry for weeks, are now buying without hesitation.
Price Hike in Mutton and Fish Markets
The resurgence in chicken sales has also impacted other meat markets.
• Mutton prices have surged from ₹850 to ₹1,000 per kilogram within a week.
• Fish prices in Hyderabad have increased by ₹50 to ₹100 per kilogram.
Market Trends and Recovery
During the bird flu scare last month, chicken sales dropped by over 50%, prompting a shift towards mutton and fish consumption. However, with consumer confidence returning, chicken sales are once again dominating the market.
Market analysts predict that if the current buying trend continues, chicken prices may rise further. The poultry market’s strong recovery underscores growing consumer confidence, marking a return to normal demand patterns as bird flu fears subside.
