Hyderabad: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has stepped up its probe into alleged Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) funds misappropriation and the election of president Jagan Mohan Rao. Officers are questioning HCA secretary and second accused Devaraj Ramchander, now in seven-day custody. They grilled him on Thursday, Friday, and again on Saturday.
CID officials say Ramchander played a key role in financial decisions. These included spending Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) grants and awarding stadium maintenance contracts. Interrogation also covered details revealed earlier by president Jagan Mohan Rao, treasurer Srinivasa Rao, and CEO Sunil Kante.
CID links HCA funds misappropriation to cricket camps and purchases
Investigators have collected evidence of corruption in summer camps meant to develop young players. They asked Ramchander how many camps were held each year, what expenses were incurred, and how cricketers were selected. In addition, they sought details on irregularities in cricket ball purchases and infrastructure projects.
The team is also examining other financial sources. These include advertising agency contracts and BCCI annual grants. Telangana Cricket Association secretary Guruva Reddy has already provided evidence that HCA receives up to ₹100 crore a year from BCCI for hosting Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. With these leads, CID plans to question more HCA officials in the coming days.
