Civil servants political bias

Hyderabad: Civil servants showing political bias in favour of the ruling Congress must face immediate disciplinary action, said BRS MLC Dr. Dasoju Sravan on Friday. He accused senior IAS and IPS officers of violating constitutional norms by acting as “palanquin bearers” for Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

At a press conference held at Telangana Bhavan, Sravan targeted IPS officer Devendra Singh Chauhan and IAS officer Dasari Harichandan for making pro-Congress remarks during a ration card distribution event in Khairatabad. He said their comments amounted to political propaganda from the bureaucracy.

“Civil servants are not Congress mouthpieces. Their Bible or Bhagavad Gita is the Constitution,” Sravan said. “But today, they’re behaving like party workers.” He cited Chauhan’s public claim that “not a single ration card was issued in the last ten years” and called it a lie.

“During the BRS government, 6.47 lakh ration cards were sanctioned,” he said, referring to official records. He denounced Harichandan’s statement—“I issued ration cards 12 years ago and now I’m doing it again”—as an attempt to portray Congress in a heroic light while slandering the previous regime.

Sravan accused the Congress government of creating a broker-driven system. “If a broker makes a call, the card arrives. But even if an MLA recommends it, it doesn’t get cleared. What kind of corruption is this?”

He pointed to Assembly records where former ministers K.T. Rama Rao and Gangula Kamalakar presented detailed ration card data and said even then-BRS leader Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy had announced new cards from public platforms—contradicting Congress claims.

Sravan issued four demands:

  • Disciplinary action by the Chief Secretary against Harichandan and Chauhan.
  • A formal complaint to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) in Delhi.
  • A Parliament-level intervention on the matter.
  • A public apology by both officials.

“When civil servants take political sides, they weaken institutions and damage democracy,” he said.
